Timber Trade Workshop, London

A FLEGT workshop was organised in London in November 2013 specifically for members of the UK Timber Trade Federation (UK TTF). Representatives from TRAFFIC, UK TTF, NMO (UK EUTR Competent Authority) and NepCon (Monitoring organisation) as well as regional experts from Latin America and Africa engaged with workshop delegates through presentations and by reviewing EUTR case studies. The aim of the workshop was to build the capacity of participants on how they can efficiently identify the scope and type of information required in the risk assessment process, provide guidance as to some of the issues to consider in the process, as well as the tools and support available to undertake a credible and robust risk assessment. The workshop also provided a space for discussing options available to operators and sharing the experiences in meeting EU Timber Regulation so far. Participants responded positively to both the structure and content of the workshops with the great majority finding them very useful. There have been a number of requests for similar events in other countries and discussions are currently underway as to how to best organise these.
