Illegal logging is a global issue that has negative economic, social and environmental impacts. Illegal logging is not merely illegal extraction of timber, but can also include any illegal activity related to the supply chain (eg, transport, processing or trade) that does not comply with the relevant laws.

The European Union (EU) are implementing an action plan known as the “Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade” or the FLEGT Action Plan. The purpose of the action plan is to address the issue of illegal logging.

The EU FAO FLEGT Programme has collated comprehensive resources relating to FLEGT. Information accessible on their website includes:

Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPAs)
EU Regulations
FLEGT Briefing Notes (2007)
EFI Policy Briefs
FLEGT Publications
EU Timber Regulations Publications
